The Council of Europe Secretariat employs around 1300 staff from all 47 member states, working on human rights, media, democracy, legal cooperation, social and economic issues, health, education, culture and heritage, sport, youth, local and regional authorities, the environment, administration, finance, data processing, documentation, public relations, translation etc. Fair representation of member states is taken into account by the Council of Europe’s human resources policy. In addition to permanent employment, the Council of Europe offers three-month traineeships in various Secretariat sectors. The traineeship is unpaid. It offers important and useful experience and provides an overview of the operation of an international organisation.
